I've got a Kuro-Box HG with Alan's image. I have a few questions:

1. I was able to change the hostname via the web interface but changing the root account password there doesn't seem to affect the root password in telnet or ftp (why?).

2. How and where can I change the username/password of the root account?

3. When I telnet or ftp into the bax, I'm always in the root directory in Hda1. How do I cd to a different directory in hda3 where all of the shared folders are stored?

4. What's the easiest way to get into the EM mode from a configured system. Will all the data be erased everytime you get into the EM mode?

5. What's stored in ROM? is it flashable?

If some of these questions sound silly, it's because I am brand new to Linux. I'd appreciate any input.

Thank you,

Le

1 - You have to change the user/password in the files /www/.htpasswd && /www/cgi-bin/.htpasswd ! to do that :
Code:
cd /www
htpasswd -b .htpasswd root newpassword
cd cgi-bin
htpasswd -b .htpasswd root newpassword
You'll have to restart the http deamon (or reboot) after the change !
2 - "passwd" or something like that ?
3 - hda3 is in /mnt directory
4 - "/usr/bin/write_ng && reboot" - EM mode erase nothing as long as you do not try to erase/format something. to leave EM mode : "write_ok && reboot"
5 - A boot & a kernel (the one used in EM mode). It's flashable, but do not do it as it'll brick your kurobox HG (i heard standard kurobox can be flashed)

I can't seem to deleted subfolders under the share folder (no access restriction) in Windows. The system says it cannot find the file although it's there. Do I need to telnet into the directory and delete it from there? I cannot find the delete command in Linux. Please help.

Thank you,

Le

Delete folder with rmdir

Delete files with rm

If you need help with the commands

rm --help

or

man rm
