HG running Debian with recent kernel update to 2.6.20.2.

While running update/upgrade, the login package reported a segmentation fault and quit. I did a quick look at dmesg and didn't understand much of it. Did a little web searching on what that means and then rebooted!!!
The unit seems to want to boot but the network led just flashes away. Finally it gives up and the red six flashes continues (this supposedly means the hard drive is missing or the avr is bad).

I think the next step is to pull the drive and reload something. I was hoping to just untar the login package in hopes of preserving my configuration.

Any ideas?

UPDATE

I unplugged and waited a minute and rebooted. It started up with the 2.4 kernel running. I untarred the 2.6.20.2 image again and rebooted and it came up. I'm checking dmesg now to see if there are any hints.

I read Sylver's comments on another thread about problems with users installing with loader.o so I went back a version and have not had any problems. I'm doing my homework so I can uboot. Then I'm going to install a serial cable for some play by play viewing.
