I'm using lni's u-boot 1.1.4 for the Kurobox HG and seem to be having trouble booting w/ sylver's kernel from kernel-2.6.18.1-mh7_kurobox_hg-20061103.tar.gz and Gentoo configured with a static IP in the 192.168.1.x netblock. If I am directly connected to a PC configure as 192.168.11.149, I have no issues booting -- using netcat, I see the right image is being loaded and I can then reconfigure my IP and ssh in to the Kuro box fine. But if I leave the PC in the 192.168.1.x netblock and power on the Kuro, u-boot seems to hang. It definitely does not come up on 192.168.1.x even after a while. And when I change the IP back to 192.168.11.149 and run netcat, I see the start of u-boot's countdown and then "next_boot_choice: Unexpected code: 0x23" several times and then it boots the ramdisk. Why does the boot process hang like this?

Also, I don't seem to have any control of the power or reset buttons like lni's document suggests I should.

Well, this seems to be a known problem with early versions of U-Boot, such as the pre-compiled version from http://www.kurobox.com/downloads/Flash_ ... otloaders/. Are there any newer ones already built? Or is my only solution to set up ELDK and compile u-boot myself?

J

Looks like the same problem as the one described in this thread:
http://www.kurobox.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1448

There's a suggestion there for a solution, but I haven't tried it yet...

You can change the IP address of U-Boot from within U-Boot. But be VERY careful, this is how I screwed up my Kurobox the first time... :)

Either follow the instructions here: http://www.kurobox.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1154

Or go into the U-Boot console with your PC as 192.168.11.149 and enter the following commands (192.168.1.1 is your PC, 192.168.1.2 is your Kurobox):

Code:
setenv serverip 192.168.1.1
setenv ncip 192.168.1.1

And now be very careful with this last one, FIRST set the variables above:

Code:
setenv ipaddr 192.168.1.2; saveenv

That should help you in the future. Now, the U-Boot will REFUSE to boot up if it can't reach the serverip/ncip as defined above. The problem is that it will retry to reach it indefinitely, unless you specify the netretry variable:

Code:
setenv netretry no

And don't forget to save:

Code:
saveenv
