hm...i might also do this fan-mate-mod in my LS1. my fan is not failing, but it would be cool if it was more silent....i replaced the hdd with a 750 GB seagate barracuda (there was no 750 GB samsung...i like them and i am also reading SPCR from time to time).....and now i definitely only here the fan. i have 2 of these fan-mates already in my desktop...

so..what did you have to do? i suppose you needed to cut the cables of the fan, then solder a plug for connecting it to the fan mate + replacing the fan?

i could fit 2 plugs on both sides of the cable....and use the old fan..

Yep I fitted a three prong plug to the existing fan wires, so I can replace the fan much more easily. Then just plugged the fan mate inline to the fan.

However it would be better to find a quiet fan that supports the voltage control wire. That way you could use the fan mate and the speed controls from the AVR.

Let me know how you get on.

Stonie.

Hmm this is a concern of mine, I was thinking of cutting small slits in the case and sticking mini heatsinks on the drive.
