I see Amazon.co.jp has Kuroboxes listed:

Kurobox : http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E7%8E%84%E4%BA%BA%E5%BF%97%E5%90%91-KURO-BOX-HG-NAS%E7%B5%84%E3%81%BF%E7%AB%8B%E3%81%A6%E3%82%AD%E3%83%83%E3%83%88/dp/B000ELJ6P0/ref=pd_sim_b_shvl_title_6/250-5772336-3556253
Kurobox Pro: http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E7%8E%84%E4%BA%BA%E5%BF%97%E5%90%91-KURO-BOX-PRO/dp/B000VZWWXW/ref=pd_sim_b_shvl_title_3/250-5772336-3556253
Serial Port USB voltage converter: http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E7%8E%84%E4%BA%BA%E5%BF%97%E5%90%91-KURO-BOX-PRO%E5%B0%82%E7%94%A8%E3%82%B7%E3%83%AA%E3%82%A2%E3%83%AB%E3%82%B3%E3%83%B3%E3%82%BD%E3%83%BC%E3%83%AB%E3%82%AD%E3%83%83%E3%83%88/dp/B000PHWT6Q/ref=pd_sim_b_shvl_title_1/250-5772336-3556253

(I don't know if those links will work, if they don't just search on "kurobox" and punch the English translation link unless you read Japanese.)

Has anyone tried ordering one this way? Kurouto Shikou apparently won't ship outside Japan from what I can decipher, but the rules via Amazon can be different, at least that's been my experience with Amazon.co.uk.

I did a simple google translate and I assume (Foreign shipping restrictions: The products are outside Japan we can not) means they don't ship outside Japan.

Is thiswhat one would use to add an ESata port to their kuro pro?

That looks like a pretty standard PATA to SATA converter which would only be of use to a kuro or HG.

The Kurobox Pro already has a second perfectly usable SATA port. Except it's on the front? Whatsup wid dat? :? Ditto for the PCI-E 1X slot which would be useful to add two more SATA ports, except that there's no way it would fit in the box, maybe I can find/hack a cable for that one and mount it over the mainboard, but I'm not hopeful.

Anyhoo, I went to Fry's and bought a Nextar.3 external USB/e-SATA box which handily includes a SATA to e-SATA bracket. After a little slot cutting and drilling on the frame (after complete disassembly of course! and blowing out any metal dust. I now have an e-SATA port on the back of my Kurobox Pro:

edit: I may have a permission problem on this page. Help?

Wiki article to follow in my copious spare time, plus I'm wiki-challenged.

I needed the e-SATA box anyway, so it wasn't a bad deal at $50 to satisfy my hardware jones...

And yeah, I don't know if you can see it clearly in the photo, but I KNOW my case-mod skilz suck!

jmgdean,

I created a page with your picture on it. http://nas-central.org/index.php/Kurobox_Pro_with_Rear_ESATA.

I feel pretty wiki-challenged at times too. I usually look at existing pages that do what I want and borrow heavily. Feel free to edit the page at will.

Eh, OK, so I added the basics. Next time I have the box in pieces I'll take some more photographs and with something better than my cellphone.

BTW how to change the article title? It's usually written "e-SATA", not "ESATA" AFAIK.

And where the fsck can I create an article in the first place? I couldn't find that.

Aside: /me has noticed that the Flash kernel has the md driver... Hmm...

James

edit: Page renamed: http://nas-central.org/index.php/Kurobox_Pro_with_Rear_e-SATA

To change the title, go to the page and try the "move" tab.

To create an article, just go to http://nas-central.org/index.php/<New-Page-Title-Here>, and since it does not exist yet, it gives you the option to start editing.

This is to mount a SATA drive in a standard Kurobox/kurobox HG. It's a PATA to SATA converter.
