Hello guys :)
I've updated this patch : http://genbako.vodapone.com/kurobox-sou ... 6.20.patch as a base for a kernel that detecting the CPU frequency & the amount of RAM instead of hard coded values depending on the target it's compiled for.
It's allow to make a kernel that will correctly boot on a kurobox or a kurobox HG (Linkstation/Linkstation HG) without any changes ;)
I've tested it successfully on my Kurobox HG using u-boot method, but I would like people to test it on a standard Kurobox and also some peole to test the loader.o boot method :)

It got :
/boot/uImage -> 2.6.20.2 kernel image for u-boot
/boot/vmlinux -> 2.6.20.2 kernel image for loader.o
/boot/.config -> The configuration file used to compile the kernel
/lib/modules/2.6.20.2_kurobox_hg -> Modules for the kernel ;) It's labeled _kurobox_hg because I didn't want to recompile the whole kernel/modules just to update the name ;)
If people are telling me that it's working ok, I'll release my kernel patch ;)

Please post your dmesg result if it's sucessfully booting :)

There is one kernel ops but else the kernel starts. Is the output enough information or do you need some further informations? I boot the kernel with the loader.o method.

Thanks for the feedback ! The u-boot method seems to work well for some people on linkstationwiki.net (on both linkstation & linkstation HG).
I've never understood those kernel oops traces but I'll try to find some tutorials to understant what's happening !

I would love to try this, but am nervous about how. Is there a howto article posted that I can follow?

I have an original Kuro with a new hard drive to use for this operation. The original install CD was damaged, so I do not have a flasher program.

I do not have u-boot but think it would also be a nice addition, would I do that first?

I'm using the loader.o method.

Hope this helps with identifying the problem; I've gone back to using 2.6.20_1 for now, which seems to be reasonably stable...

Could you tell if you are using u-boot or loader.o to load it ?
A guy tried it on his linkstation using u-boot and it seems to run well !
I have some "side work" to finish before looking for that deeper, so don't expect too much reactivity from me for now :oops:

It seems like the uboot startup allow to run a kernel with no problems but the loader.o method leads to some kernel panics & co...
I'm working on finishing the "universal" kernel patch : It's now running on my terastation pro too, with the loader.o method (it's a modified version of loader.o that makes a clean shutdown before running the new kernel).
After the cleaning phase of my kernel sources, i'll start the official test&debugging phase :)

Well, actually I'm waiting for the Kernel source of the TsP v2 to be available. After that, I'll merge some stuff related to RAID support in latest kernel, then I'll focus on debugging ...

Hi Sylver,

does your precompiled kernel need uboot 1.1.4 or the new version from the
stock 2.6 kernel thread?
The 2.6 thread says, that the uimages are incompatible to eachother?

I'm using loader.o

When I tried with the new update, my Kuro HG kept reverting to the 2.4 kernel. I copied the loader.o over from the base image as described in this thread:

and it seems to boot ok some of the time, other times is still reverts to the old 2.4 Kernel? :?
