I recently purchased a Western Digital MyBook Premium II (1TB) external USB drive for my Kurobox (running gentoo with a 2.6.15 kernel).

When I plug it in, the Kurobox recognises the USB device, but fails to map it to a SCSI device. I already have a Seagate external USB drive, and that works like a charm.

Here's the relevant output from dmesg:

Code:

You can see that it recognises the Seagate drive correctly, and maps it to sda. However, the WD drive is recognised, but not mapped (presumably to sdb).

Checking /dev/disk/by-id reveals that the WD drive is not listed there, unsurprisingly.

I have confirmed that the WD drive is working correctly, and have formatted it to ext3 on a separate linux laptop. I've also tried swapping the USB ports that the drives use, but the same problem persists - the Seagate works, and the WD does not.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Steve
