yup, i said it ....

I can see the tumble weed uh, tumbling past.

Anyways,
How is a computer like Britney Spears?
They're both cheap, white, and plastic.

And now for something completely different

Code:
use IO::Handle;
open(YOUR_MOUTH,"< TO_FOOD") or die;
while($your_face_hole=<YOUR_MOUTH>) {
chomp $your_face_hole;
}
close(YOUR_MOUTH);
open(YOUR_BOWELS,"> TO_THE_TOILET") or die;
YOUR_BOWELS->autoflush(2);
close(YOUR_BOWELS);

We need something to keep the people satiated.

perhaps a competition (no not like the good old buffalo ones)
well, not realy a competition but a way of getting people to have an imput into something.

like writing something, each person can enter one word/line (would be good if we could all draw pictures together)

Or even if anybody has a good flash game that we can have a hi-score league table on?

I agree with monkeyboy ...

However, I have no idea on what will get the people interested on the issue ...

what does similar communities do to get their members interested ?

maybe we can have a "home server club" or something, to gather all the people who got a home server to work toguether on that, to improve, suggest new things, discuss, code programs, write guides, etc; ....

How about this:
How to make a Home sever you can have in your living room.
What would you want on it?

I'd like
Apache
MythTV backend
Upnp server via MythTV
Samba
obviously ssh

well, if you put it in your living room you might as well connect it to your TV and stereo too. so you need a sound card and some sort of video device (like a bob-3)

what about the storage?
a nice quiet seagate 750gb would be about $170, geez its cheap in the us, over here you would pay £140, (equates to about $278)

im part way thouggh trying to built my own guitar effects unit wit a via mini-itx board, gonna use a 4gb disk on module, the idea is to have no moving parts, hence no noise, but for test ive got a via board with fan that was cheap

Have you seen the pictures of my completely custom Mini-ITX system: 2GHz, 1GB RAM, Dual 2.5" hard drives, DVD Drive, Satellite Receiver card all in a 8.2" x 7.9" x 4,2" Padauk see through case? Mine came in right about $500 also, but I put in loads of time designing and building the case and custom stuff like the LCD, power button, and IR sensor.

used bronze acrylic and cut it with a table saw, router, and scroll saw. Runs nice and cool with the 50mm case fan and I replaced the fans with units that produce less than 18db(A) and then slowed the case fan even more. it runs very quietly.

me too,

i was planning to put one into a thermos lunchbox with the deep lid http://bluebuddies.com/gallery/Smurf_Lunchbox_and_Thermos/jpg/Smurfs_Lunchbox_&_Thermos_Smurf's_Up_Smurflings_Surfing.jpg

with a nice 8" touchscreen in the lid, flip it open and away you go.. like a laptop type thing... though i seam to just procrastinate and not do any of my ideas.. oh well... one day
