I noticed on Tom's hardware in a NAS benchmark discussion someone referring to changing TCP settings to improve throughput. The writer claimed 20 Mb/s on a KB. I've only benched 5 or so.

There seems to be a dearth of discussion here on this topic but quite a bit of lusting for more hardware boosts.

In the wake of the KBpro, and with a desire to maximize the utility of my HG, I thought I would venture to ask if anyone HERE has seen much better than the 5-7 Mb/s reads on the KB and how that compares to the Pro.

I've had my box for a couple of years and it just runs. I've read with enthusiasm the uboot efforts. I feel like the folks back east reading about the wild west back in the 1800's! My life is pretty full but I'm fascinated by the pursuit of solutions by the writers on these pages.

Anyhow, any feedback would be great. Thanks.

Paul

What setup have you got at the moment?

ie ,
have you installed another distro onto your HG?
is it connected to a 1gbit network or a 100mbit (and is it a hub or a switch)?

---
One step would be to use a 2.6 kernel instead of a 2.4 (standard kernel on a HG). But to do this (i think) you would need to install one of the other distributions like debian or gentoo.

I've got the original. I had played around with Sylver's interfaces early on but didn't do much as the unit was online.

I'll be going for the 2.6 upgrade next with the Debian install. Not sure when, perhaps I'll get another box to play with. They are so cheap now!

But I do have to find the time.

Have you seen any improvements in speed with the 2.6 kernal and apps?
